Wellfie Wednesday: Added Benefits of Exercise
Today’s Wellfie Wednesday is about the added benefits of adding exercise to your daily routine. One of the biggest bonuses is the ability of exercise to add resiliency to your lifestyle. There are many benefits to exercise (some of which I am just now finding out about in these last three months of #SummerOfMove). I enjoyed this little Wellfie Wednesday tip because it does a good job of describing some of the unsung benefits of exercise.
Exercise can help with learning to push yourself, which leads to comfort in tough times. It also decreases stress and increases endorphin release (the body’s feel good drug). Finally, it increases resiliency. Being more resilient is something we would all use.
ONE THING I LEARNED TODAY:
There are many benefits to exercise. Some of them are well known and some are less thought about. But the bottom line is we all need to move. Sedentary lifestyles are becoming the new “cigarettes”. We all know they are bad for us, yet some of us choose to continue slowly killing ourselves in that fashion anyway. I have never really been a fan of exercise (which is ironic given that I am in a field that utilizes exercise as a primary pillar of returning injured people to good health). I have had to literally change my behaviors in order to force myself up at 5am to get to the gym 3 days per week. On days that I don’t go to the gym I have started Yoga because not only do I want better flexibility, but my daughter loves it, so it is daddy-daughter bonding time.
Having an accountability partner (or group as in Team #MQuattro for the #SummerOfMove) has also been a great learning experience. I enjoy the support and camaraderie. Hopeful to keep up with my journey towards a sub 300 pound and active (possibly even Crossfit) lifestyle.
