Walking Dead Blackstrap Molasses Stout
Well, it is almost that time again. Fall is here and that can only mean one thing: Return of The Walking Dead! I figured I would squeeze in one more beer review before I go all Whole30-ish again. I saw my buddy Jarrad snag one of these for Fantasy Football Draft Weekend and I had to try one out myself.
I am generally a stout fan. The thicker the better. I like my stouts almost like a meal. Give me Guiness or Give me Death! When we lived in Newnan Georgia, it was very easy to get anything Walking Dead related as Senoia was 10 minutes up the road. It was also easy to get anything Terrapin Brewery related as that was about 30 minutes up the road. Fast forward a year to Texas, and not quite as easy. This beer is dark, thick, and a little sweet from the molasses. There are some fruits involved, but they seem like bitter fruits. Not much barrel or woody flavoring at all. Overall I would put this stout as average at best. Not thick and tasty enough to wow me.
One Thing I Learned Today:
Get out and explore what is around you locally. I got to enjoy many a good Atlanta, GA based brewery when we lived there (including Terrapin Brewery’s Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA), and I am only aware of 2 or 3 Waco breweries, so I will be sure to check them out and report back on them eventually. But it is a case of literally, “When in Rome…” Research your surrounding and go explore and interact with the locals. Not only will you be glad you did, you will likely learn a bit about where you are, and where the best places to eat or drink are.
