This Is The First Song For Your Mixtape…
Do you remember what it was like to make a mixtape? I don’t know about you, but if you got a mixtape from me (or an eventual Mix CD), it really meant something. It meant I took the time to think about what songs I thought you would enjoy, in which order, and from what bands. There are a bunch of songs about mix tapes (referring to cassettes). Butch Walker has a good one, Chance The Rapper has a good one, but I always revert back to this one by Brand New. This is the first song for your mixtape…
The Art Of The Mix Tape
If you go way back to the cassette days, there were times were you could record the song of the radio. You would have to wait for it to come on and hope you recorded it at the right length without radio station interference or ads. Then we evolved into CDs, which were still great as far as a mix “tape” or CD were concerned. Because at the end of the day it was still something tangible and it was something you took time and thought when creating. These days, it seems playlists are all that really get shared. Also an acceptable form of music and sentiment sharing, just not as hardcore as the old days.
ONE THING I LEARNED TODAY
I still use music in the clinic a lot, and with many of my treatment sessions. I even create work friendly playlists for use during the day. But if you really want to make someone’s day, make them a mix CD. (Or if you want to go really old school, make them a mix tape). I guarantee it brightens their day. And I bet it helps therapeutically as well.
