It is nice this time of year to be able to step outside of the only real sport going on in Major League Baseball, and look at one of my other painful teams, the New York Knicks. With the NBA draft being tonight, there has been a lot of talk and a lot of action already transpiring. My beef with the New York Knicks is much like my beef with almost all of my New York Teams…Upper Management.

The Knicks have been an absolute disappointment for approximately 20 years. My fondest memories of the Knicks were from the late 80’s mid 90’s when they had Patrick Ewing, John Starks, Larry Johnson, Xavier McDaniels, Charles Oakley…THESE WERE THE KNICKS! Unfortunately, that quintessential team had to play Michael Jordan and the Bulls every year to get to the Eastern Finals, and we all know how that worked out.  Looking back, the Knicks lost to the Bulls in the playoffs in 88’-89’, 90’-91’, 91’-92’, 92’-93, 95’-’96 . If you look at the two opportunities they had, when Jordan left to play baseball, the lost to the Rockets, and the next year was the Reggie Miller vs. Spike Lee choke game.

The last 20 years have seen 5 playoff appearances, with 4 first round exits. It is frustrating to me that a professional sports team, in the greatest city in the world, on the most famous stage in the world, Madison Square Garden, can not put a quality product on the floor. It goes back to the customer voice that I blogged about earlier this week.  At what point do we stop buying tickets, stop buying hats and jerseys, stop supporting…ok, I know, I likely won’t ever stop supporting the Knicks, but at some point, you have to do something that shows upper management that we as fans are sick of terrible performances. I think it makes it worse being in New York because the tourists that are constantly in the city can sustain a Knicks game on any given night. But just when I think things couldn’t get any worse…

The Kicks are ACTIVELY SHOPPING Kristaps Porzingis. The one solid player on our team, that we had talked all about re-building our team around, and now we are shopping him. Mainly because he missed an “exit interview” last year…I have to go Allen Iverson for a minute and say “Exit interview…? EXIT Interview…? We talkin’ EXIT INTERVIEW!?!” Come on Phil…get with the times and text the guy and ask what you need to about his views on the season. Done deal. If we lose Porzingis, I lose my shi….
