It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Beer!
Every year around the end of January and through the middle of February, there is a brief period of time where the elusive Bell’s Brewery Hopslam can be found. It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Beer! My wife had become particularly skilled at “Huntin’ for Hopslams” when we lived in the Atlanta area. She had formed a bit of a rapport with all of the bodegas and gas stations in the ghettos that would not only have a random diamond in the rough six pack of Hopslam or two, but they would not limit your purchase either. After moving to Texas I was disappointed to find Bell’s Brewery did not ship here at first, but as of last year, that was no longer a problem. And as of 2018, I am proud to report that finding Hopslam will not be a problem either!
Hopslam will be making its virgin trip to Texas any day now, and even more exciting is the re-release of Hopslam in Mini-Kegs. I have never had the pleasure of trying Hopslam from a mini-keg, so I am curious what the difference in freshness and taste will be. The fact that Bell’s veered away from glass bottles and went to cans only the last few years had been a bit of a disappointment. I could literally taste the metallic difference in aluminum can versus glass bottle. But I am hoping the mini-keg (although also made of aluminum) will have some sort of liner and the freshness factor will prevail.
ONE THING I LEARNED TODAY:
Good things do come to those who wait. When it comes to beer, there is little I enjoy more than an ice cold Hopslam. It has literally become a favorite of mine, which is really amazing considering how little I enjoy IPAs. I am just glad it is finally going to found in Texas, and I will be able to seek out and crush it in several different methods, modes, and fashions.
