Give A Little Bit…

Give A Little Bit…

It is the season to be thankful, and the season for giving. One could argue we should always be in the season of giving, and I like to think that my primary job as a physical therapist helps me stay grounded in that theory. Which reminded me of this cover of the song “Give A Little Bit…” by the Goo Goo Dolls.

How To Give

I think it is important to realize that “giving” doesn’t always mean donating money or giving gifts. You can give your time by volunteering, you can give somebody a boost in their career by offering them a free service you can provide, or free guidance or counseling in something you may be an expert in. You can be a tutor or a mentor, or even serve as a role model or a big brother or big sister.

Today’s blog was inspired by a podcast Brandon Poen and I did on The Healthcare Education Transformation Podcast with Mark Milligan, and one we are recording tonight with Jerry Durham. For every F-bomb dropped in Mark’s episode, we donated $5 to the Stand Haiti Project and for every F-bomb dropped in Jerry’s episode, we will donate $5 to the APTA PAC. This is just one way I felt I could support good causes doing good things for the field and profession of Physical Therapy that has given me so much. It is also my hopes that it will inspire you to do the same and donate to ANY good cause!

Giving feels good. Plus it is just the right thing to do. I have listed a ton of different ways to give back this season (or all year long). I would love to hear about ways you give back to society. It doesn’t even have to be in the field of physical therapy. It can be for any profession, or just in your life really. If you have questions or need ideas, feel free to contact me with a comment here. You can also contact me on any of my social media outlets. I would love to chat with you.
