Background Vocals (Lending Support)
Its good to be back in the groove after taking a few days to unwind and unplug with family on a wonderful 4th of July holiday! It definitely recharged my batteries and gave me the opportunity to catch up on some podcast listening. One of my non-healthcare related podcasts I listen to is Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz and author James Campion’s UNDERWATER SUNSHINE PODCAST. The two have done a wonderful job on this podcast, and I feel like I am getting my PhD in music just by listening. However, the last two weeks on the podcast, they have a theme of Background Vocals (lending support). It has really made me think about support systems.
Support systems are super important in life. We all need them in one way or another. For me, my family has served as a strong support system. The last few years have been a period or triumph, tribulations, tragedy, and success for me. I could not have survived any of it without my family and my support system. If you have set a goal, in anything, a support system is a great way to help you achieve that goal.
ONE THING I LEARNED TODAY:
Much like the background vocals to a great song, they are there to help compliment that song, not to be the spotlight or forefront of the song. A support system works the same way. It could be friends, family, co-workers, advisors, or even committee chairs. Whatever you set your goal to be, use your support system to help keep you accountable, to be there to listen to you vent, and to keep the ball moving forward down the field. This is not only a healthy way of dealing with your goals, but a successful way to implement them.
