We’re Going Bowling!
For the first time in several years, The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will be going to a relatively decent bowl game.
The Demon Deacons finished the year with a 7-5 record, which was one of the few highlights of my 2017 sports seasons. For those of you who know me, I am very passionate about all of my teams. The Mets were a huge disappointment, mainly due to all of their injuries this year, many of which I blogged about (because I find them interesting). The Giants were a huge surprise with how bad they were this year. The benching of Eli Manning was an absolute abomination. But at the very least, the Demon Deacons can say, “We’re Going Bowling!”.
Where Could They End Up?
As of now, all signs point point to a boring local bowl game in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, NC against Kentucky. Not a sexy bowl, not a sexy matchup, nothing intriguing about this game. Will I watch it, yes likely because it is Wake Forest, but it is a Friday at 1:00, so I will be at work, which throws another wrench in the mix. The other more intriguing possibility is the Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso Texas. Same day, slightly later time (2:00) against an Arizona or a team like that. Will I take the day off and travel to go to this game? Likely not, because it is just not a big enough game for me to miss a day of work to go see. Will I watch it, again, yes if possible, but there is those pesky mid day games that are hard to watch.
ONE THING I LEARNED TODAY:
It is completely fine to be passionate about your teams. It is even fun and entertaining. I hope to one day be able to travel anytime, anyplace to go enjoy watching my teams play, however, don’t attach things like self-esteem and self-worth to a college or professional team and their outcomes. That would qualify as unhealthy. So have a great holiday season, and good luck to all of your respective teams!
